Entering Past Expenses
To streamline the catch-up process, we recommend entering the monthly totals for each expense category into Boulevard instead of itemizing every expense. This approach will provide you with a comprehensive Summary of Expenses report, which is essential for year-end tax preparation (Be sure to retain all original receipts and documents for tax purposes).
Tip: If any entries are recurring, you can exclude them from the steps below and instead simultaneously enter them as recurring entries. See Create, Edit, or Delete Recurring Expenses for detailed steps.
- Begin by grouping the receipts by month.
- When finished, sort each month into the applicable expense categories (you can refer to your accountant for help with this).
- Using a calculator, add each category for each month.
From the sidebar navigation, clickBusiness Tools, then Expenses.
Tips:
- To view a running list of the entries from the Filter sidebar, set the Date Range to include the corresponding month of the items being entered.
- You can use your tab key to quickly move between fields or your arrow key when changing the date in the Date field.
- From the toolbar, clickthen select New Expense.
- In the Pay To field, type the category name assigned to the expenses.
- In the Date field, enter a date within the month you are recording (such as 7/1/2023 for the entire month of July).
- If the same payment method was used for all entries, enter it in the Number field; otherwise, leave it blank.
- From the Category field, begin typing to drill down and choose the appropriate category.
- From the Memo field, enter the month the expenses occurred; for example, July 2023 ProPay Fees.
- Enter the amount calculated from the steps above in the Amount* field.
- Select theand repeat the steps until you finish entering all expenses.
* For Canadian users, enter or change the GST field as well.
